'Alternative Baseball' Organization looking to come to the Northland - KBJR 6

DULUTH, MN. -- In 2016, Taylor Duncan, with the help of his mother started 'Alternative Baseball', to give anyone the chance to play baseball who have autism.

Fast forward four years later, and there are 38 developed programs across the country, and now Duncan has his sights set on adding one here in the Northland, but is looking for your help to get it started.

At just four years old, Taylor Duncan was diagnosed with autism.

"I had speech issues, sensory issues, and anxiety issues growing up and with the help of my mother who has helped me with a lot of those obstacles I have been able to get through a lot of those, but growing up I still face a lot of social stigma and perception from peers," said Duncan.

With a love for baseball and wantng to overcome the stigma the Georgia native made it his mission to spread the the 501c3 organization 'Alternative Baseball' across the country, bringing the sport to those that are 15 and older who just want to get out and play.

"The bond is so strong that those friendships are going to last for the rest of their lives and that's what we built here in the greater Atlanta area and now going across the united states and we want to replicate that in the Duluth and Superior areas for sure," added Duncan.

But Duncan said he needs the help of the Northland to make his dream a reality in the Twin Ports.

"Baseball experience is always nice, but overall its the heart and desire to help others to reach their potential and push them beyond their own boundaries so they to can realize they are so much more capable that maybe what they even thought they could do in their own imaginations," said Duncan.

The program was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but when they start back up in the spring of 2021, they want to bring their game right here to the Northland.
