Police still looking for person who killed Saginaw father of two - mlive.com

SAGINAW, MI — Police are still looking for the person who fatally shot a Saginaw father of two outside the Kochville Township restaurant he managed. Meanwhile, the slain man’s loved ones have started a GoFundMe campaign to help with costs of his first grandchild’s looming birth.

Saginaw County Undersheriff Mike Gomez said on Tuesday, Jan. 26, that no arrests have been made in the fatal shooting of Donald J. Patrick Jr., 38. Police at about 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 found Patrick deceased with a gunshot to his head near his vehicle in the parking lot of Hooters, 5538 Bay Road.

Patrick was a Hooters employee and was the only one there when the shooting occurred, Sheriff William F. Federspiel previously told MLive.

Patrick is survived by two daughters, ages 19 and 4 and a half, according to a GoFundMe page entitled “Ladonna Patrick Rebuilding Fund,” started by friend Christen Hardy. His elder daughter, Ladonna Patrick, is expecting her first child in April.

“Donald was a single father and has had full custody of Ladonna since birth,” the campaign states. “This was Donald’s first grandchild, and he was working dusk till dawn to make sure he would be able to provide for his daughter and grandchild, but due to the actions of a shooter who is still at large that was taken from him.”

Ladonna Patrick lived with her father and he was her primary provider. She must now find housing and prepare for her child’s birth without either of her parents, the campaign states.

“This fund is being created to specifically assist Ladonna with housing expenses, monthly bills, and the preparation of her newborn daughter in April,” the page states. “Ladonna will use a portion of this fund to provide her younger sister with support.”

The campaign has garnered $410 of a $10,000 goal from four donors as of 1:22 p.m. on Jan. 26.

Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., is handling Donald Patrick’s funeral arrangements. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, with a private service also to be held.

Federspiel has said the shooting was reported by a pizza delivery driver who happened to be driving by when he heard six or seven gunshots. After hearing the shots, the driver saw a man in a white hooded sweatshirt running toward the nearby Walmart, Federspiel has said.

A K-9 police unit tracked the shooter’s scent until it went cold, the sheriff has said. He speculated the K-9 lost the trail due to the suspect getting into a vehicle.

Those with information related to Patrick’s killing may call investigators at 989-790-5404.
