Angels looking for first three-game series win at Dodger stadium since 2012 - Halos Heaven

The Angels have a chance to do something they haven’t done in nine years.

Simply beat their “cross-town” rival in a three-game series at Dodger Stadium.

The Angels took two of three against the Dodgers in 2012 with relievers Jason Isringhausen and LaTroy Hawkins picking up the wins and both coming in the ninth inning.

Recent success has been not been consistent of late.

Last year the Angels were swept by the Dodgers in six games and 3-8 over their last 11 games, but the Angels hold the all-time series advantage, 73-62.

Not only are the Angels looking for Southern California bragging rights but to stay in contention in the AL Wild Card chase.

The loss yesterday pushed the Angels seven games back of Oakland for the second wild card spot and they still have to leapfrog Seattle, Toronto and the Yankees.

First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. with Reid Detmers (0-2, 12.46 ERA) taking the mound for the Halos against Walker Buehler (11-2, 216 ERA)

Detmers looking to bounce back

The Angels No. 1 pitching prospect got nipped by the long ball against Oakland back on Aug. 1 at Angels Stadium.

Thew 22-year old south paw pitched 4.1 innings, giving up a pair of home runs to Matt Olson and Jed Lowrie giving up six earned runs on six hits.

Detmers was the Angels first found selection of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisville.

Historically Angels have had good second career starts.

Jared Weaver threw 6.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs and struck out eight in a win over Baltimore on June 2, 2006 and Clyde Wright threw 8.1 innings allowing one earned run against the Kansas City Athletics on June 19, 1966.

Fletcher’s hot bat

David Flether shares the top spot with Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins with 132 hits in the American League. This season Fletcher is batting .305 and has recorded a hit in 22 out of the last 25 road games.

Slegers returns

The Angels recalled RHP Aaron Slegers from Triple A Salt Lake and optioned RHS Andrew Wantz to Salt Lake.

Slegers is 2-2 over 27 appearances with a 6.46 ERA. On the big league club.
