Al Horford has become a $109 million problem for the Philadelphia 76ers, and they may try to rid themselves of it.
The Sixers might look to trade Horford this offseason, USA Today reports, amid a frustrating first season for Horford in Philly.
The 33-year-old was supposed to be part of a dominating frontcourt with Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris, but it hasn’t worked out thus far. Horford was taken out of the starting lineup for a three-game stretch last month before returning to the starting five on Feb. 24.
Horford’s 11.7 points per game is his lowest average since he had 11.5 points per game in 2008-09, his second NBA season.
The Sixers fell to 37-24 with a Sunday loss to the Clippers, falling to 9-22 on the road. They’re the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference and are just a half-game ahead of the Indiana Pacers. If they can’t catch the Miami Heat to take the No. 4 seed, they’ll have to start a first-round playoff series on the road, which could spell an early exit. The Sixers fell to the eventual-NBA champion Raptors in the second round last year.
