Jordan Howard’s tenure in Philadelphia may only last one season.
The Eagles running back is expected to test free agency on March 18 when the new league year begins.
The Eagles traded a conditional sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears last offseason to acquire Howard. While the veteran running back got off to a bit of a slow start due to limited playing time, Howard eventually found his groove during the Week 4 win over the Green Bay Packers.

After becoming a focal point of the offense, Howard suffered a shoulder stinger injury in Week 9 against the Bears. He missed all but one game during the remainder of the season, finishing with 525 rushing yards, 69 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns.
While the Eagles should consider re-signing Howard to a one-year deal, the team may just want to move forward with superstar-in-waiting Miles Sanders and Boston Scott, who helped handle the load down the stretch this past year.
If Howard hits the open market, his value may not be very high. He was traded for a late-round pick just one year ago and now he has the added stigma that comes with a lingering injury as well.
Despite those issues, Howard has proven to be a dependable contributor when healthy.
Landing Spot Series: Nelson Agholor | Halapoulivaati Vaitai | Nate Sudfeld | Jason Peters | Jalen Mills | Kamu Grugier-Hill | Ronald Darby | Timmy Jernigan | Rodney McLeod
Here are three logical landings spots for Howard in free agency:
1. Broncos
The Broncos need a power back to complement starter Phillip Lindsay at the running back position. Howard could provide some punch opposite Lindsay, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Howard and Royce Freeman can rotate behind Lindsay, providing support for quarterback Drew Lock in the backfield.
While Howard wouldn’t cost much, he could provide strong support in the backfield. Howard has a proven ability to pick up needed yardage after contact. That skill could benefit a retooled offense.
2. Bills
One of Howard’s strongest performances last season came against Buffalo. The veteran running back picked up 96 rushing yards and a touchdown at New Era Field against Sean McDermott’s defense.
With Frank Gore likely to migrate elsewhere, Howard would be a logical replacement for the bruising back.
Howard would be an excellent veteran complement to Devin Singletary. Howard can pick up big chunks of yardage and his pass protection is top-notch. He definitely fits the mold of a cold-weather running back.
3. Browns
The Browns lack running back depth behind Nick Chubb. The Vikings found a lot of success on the ground under new Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski, so the Browns are likely to follow suit this season. Howard would be a strong backup for Chubb, as the pair share a similar running style.
While Chubb would see the majority of the looks on offense, Howard’s presence would be important. He could fill in for Chubb on third down and replace him if an injury occurred. Howard’s similar style could help the offense maintain its momentum, even without Chubb in the lineup.
New general manager Andrew Berry spent last season in Philadelphia with Howard, so he understands his personality and his on-field strengths and weaknesses. If the Browns don’t bring back restricted free agent Kareem Hunt, Howard could be a strong replacement. Even if they do bring Hunt back, Howard could provide a reliable third option in the running game.
