The online retail giant Amazon is on a hiring spree once again.
The company is looking to make a dent in the number of Americans out of work.
Millions of people have lost their jobs as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ardine Williams, the company's Vice President of Workforce Development spoke with News Channel 3 via Zoom from a noisy constructions site in Northern Virginia.
That's where Amazon is building its new headquarters.
"It's a company of builders that are obsessively focused on customers," said Williams.
The company is looking to fill 100,000 positions around the country, including what Williams says is "hundreds" of positions at their delivery station in Palm Springs.
The full and part time positions start at $15 dollars an hour, with full time employees receiving full benefits from "day one".
"They're typically involved in fulfilling customer orders, whether it's receiving orders, storing goods on shelves or selecting customer items from shelves," said Williams.
The jobs in Palm Springs are among the 4,900 positions the company is looking to fill across Southern California, including jobs at warehouses in Redlands and Ontario.
Wednesday, the company hosted a virtual online "Career Day", which included interviews with career experts who offered advice for anyone looking to make a career "pivot" in any industry.
The videos are now available to watch online and cover topics such as "Building Your Professional Brand" and "Reimagining Your Resume".
Amazon employees also talked about what it's like working for the tech giant, whose business is surging because of lockdowns and business closures around the country.
"So career day is an opportunity for us to help in a small way as folks begin to look to pivot to something different," said Williams.
