Looking For Food, Water In Greater Houston And Galveston? Here’s A List (Friday, Feb. 19) - Houston Public Media

Most of Houston has its power back as of Friday morning. But many Houstonians are still struggling without electricity, while water pressure remains low for people throughout most of the city, and still others deal with burst pipes.

City government, public officials and community organizations are hosting events with food, water and supplies for people still unable to boil water.

Below is a list of location where you or someone you know can find help.

  • Delmar Stadium, 2020 Mangum Road, Spring Branch. Open Now. Water
  • West Houston Assistance Ministries, Westchase, 10501 Meadowglen Lane. Open Now. Water and food for 250 families
  • Viet Alley Restaurant, 11210 Bellaire Boulevard, Chinatown. Opens at Noon. Water and hot meals for 200 families
  • Jersey Mike’s, 7670 Katy Freeway, Spring Branch. Open now until 9 p.m. Hot meals for 300 people
  • Jimmy Changas, 3090 Westgreen Boulevard, Katy. Open now until 9 p.m. Hot meals for 300 people
  • Rollin' Phatties, 1731 Westheimer Road, Montrose. Open Noon-Midnight. Hot meals for 375 people
  • 3118 Green St., Fifth Ward. Opens at Noon. Water and food
  • 318 Sampson St., Second Ward. Opens at Noon. Water and food
  • St Timothy's Episcopal Church, 13125 Indianapolis St., Northshore. Free groceries, 24/7
  • Houston Food Bank Partners call ahead to confirm.
  • A2ndcup Coffee Shop, 1111 E. 11th St., the Heights. Open now until 6 p.m. Boiled Water (bring container)
  • Maika'i Hawaiian BBQ, 1251 Pin Oak Road, Katy. Open now until 9 p.m all weekend. Free kids meals throughout the weekend
  • Pho Bò To & Bò Né, 8388 W. Sam Houston Parkway S., Alief. Opens at 2 p.m. until supplies last. Free pho, 2 bowl limit per family, reserve in advance
  • Burns Original BBQ, 14221 E. Sam Houston Parkway in the Kroger parking lot, Summerwood. Open Noon until sold out. Free BBQ meals for 2,000 people
  • Inner Me Studios, 2206 Emancipation Ave., East Downton. Open now until 9 p.m. Free hot showers
  • Battle Hops Brewing, 6801 Highway Boulevard, Katy. Open Noon until 8 p.m. Free filtered drinking water (bring container)
  • OST Liquor Store, 3928 Old Spanish Trail, Unit E, Third Ward. Open now until 9 p.m. Free case of water, one per family
  • Iglesia Rios de Aceite, 12500 Corona Lane, Alief. Opens at 3 p.m. Bottled water and food
  • Precinct 4 non-potable water sites, Open Noon-5 p.m., 10 gallon limit (bring container):

For Houstonians who can't afford supplies, Mutual Aid Houston is offering financial assistance of $100 to anyone in immediate need of food and water. To apply, keep checking the group’s online form as it becomes available.

Store updates and hours of operation for HEB, Central Market, Kroger, Walmart and Walgreens can be found at ReadyHarris.org under the header, "Looking for Supplies?" Public officials are recommending Houstonians try smaller grocery stores, as they might have short lines. A crowdsourced list of Houston businesses has circulated, but check with the location for hours of operations and supplies before traveling.

How To Volunteer

Houston Food Bank is looking for volunteers at its sites, and are also accepting canned donations at Houston Food Bank East located at 535 Portwall St. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center said it is in dire need of blood donations. There is an emergency blood drive at NRG Park Friday and Saturday. Appointments are preferred, and masks are required. CrowdSource Rescue is also seeking volunteers, and Say Her Name TX is looking for volunteers and donations.
