Looking at the Copper Country's contribution to Notre Dame hockey - keweenawreport.com

Less than two weeks until the Fighting Irish skate at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena, perhaps the highest profile nonconference opponent for the Huskies to visit the Copper Country in years. Hancock councilman and historian John Haeussler says there is a lot of history tying this region to Notre Dame.

His current project is on Calumet High Alumnus Bill Gray, who made his name in the collegiate ranks as a Golden Domer. Haeussler will be giving a presentation at the Michigan Tech Van Pelt and Opie Library on Thursday, October 14th highlighting his findings. Everyone is welcome to the East Reading Room from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

Haeussler is teasing some interesting nuggets. Did you know that Notre Dame’s first intercollegiate game was at the Amphidrome in Houghton? It’s first win happened at the Calumet Colosseum. Notre Dame’s first season was in 1921 and three Calumet alumni were on the squad.
