2021 RECORDS
MOR: 14-9 (10-2 OVC) | SIUE: 5-18 (2-11 OVC)
SERIES RECORD
Morehead State leads 8-6 | Last Meeting (10/26/19 - MOR won 3-2 in Morehead)
NOTABLE
- Morehead State and SIUE did not meet during the postponed 2020 campaign, with the last meeting coming back in 2019. The shifty series has swung back and forth with MSU leading 8-6. The Eagles won the first seven matchups beginning in 2009 until 2013, but then the Cougars got the better of MSU for six straight.
- Sophomore setter Bridget Bessler has moved to seventh place in career assists at MSU with 2,597. Bessler ranks second in the OVC in assists per set at 10.37 and is a three-time OVC Setter of the Week award winner this fall. She has been crowned Setter of the Week 10 times now in her career.
- Grad student Olivia Lohmeier now has 1,862 career kills and is one of just two OVC players averaging more than 4.0 kills per set this season. Lohmeier ranks second in career kills at MSU and is easily the rally-scoring era (2001-) career leader for successful spikes at MSU. She is ranked fifth in OVC history for kills and needs just 36 more to overtake former three-time OVC Player of the Year Abbey Breit (1,897 at Jacksonville State from 2004-07).
- Correlating to the Eagles' 10-match winning streak, freshman middle McKenzee Wagener has had at least four total blocks in all 10 of those matches. She currently ranks second in the OVC with 98 total blocks and leads the conference with 20 solo blocks. In just two seasons, Wagener has 159 total blocks in 149 sets, or more than a block per set.
- With 10 more aces to their credit on Wednesday against Tennessee Tech, the Eagles lead the conference in aces against other league foes. MSU's 78 aces in conference play is 14 more than second place Southeast Missouri.
- The current winning streak is just the third streak of 10+ wins since 2012. Morehead State reeled off 24 straight victories during its OVC title season in 2012 and started the 2021 spring season with 14 straight triumphs.
- Freshman right-side Maycie Welborn has started in nine straight matches and has recorded at least one block in all nine. She also has 7+ kills in eight consecutive matches.
- Junior libero Allison Whitten has only not had 10+ digs in two matches this season, and one of those she had nine. With 1,658 career digs now, she ranks third on MSU's rally-scoring era (2001-) list of career digs.
