Counties across Michigan have reported some signs of progress in the effort to vaccinate people to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 this week, with several saying they expect an increase in vaccine supply that will allow them to vaccinate more people.
On Wednesday, March 3, Michigan announced it will open up eligibly for vaccinations of people 50 years old and older, with certain requirements, beginning Monday, March 8.
Residents 50 years and older who have “preexisting conditions, disabilities and other medical vulnerabilities” will become eligible Monday, March 8, confirmed Bobby Leddy, press secretary for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Two weeks later, beginning March 22, all residents 50 years and older will be eligible, the governor’s office said.

The state opening up eligibly does not mean all counties will begin taking patients in that group immediately. Some counties have not released full details on local rollouts and when vaccinations will be available for people 50 years old and older.
Health officials are still working to complete vaccinations of people in the vaccination phase that includes people age 65 and older and others. About half of Michigan residents 65 and older have now been vaccinated.
