DULUTH, Minn.– June is bringing two exciting events back to Duluth since the pandemic. Grandmas Marathon will be drawing in large crowds but the Duluth Air Show is also expecting a big turnout.
Duluth is thrilled to welcome back two staple events of the summer, but these events are looking to the community for a little help to make sure they go off without a hitch.
Since Grandma’s Marathon has announced their return, the preparation plans have changed along with the loosening of restrictions, but they are still looking for a few extra hands to help out.
“We can always use more help, Grandmas Marathon was built on community members coming together, it always has been for 45 years and this year will be no different, so the more people we have, the easier it will be and the better event we can put on,” Zach Schneider, the Public Relations and Marketing Director of Grandmas Marathon, said.
They are looking for people to help in the days leading up to the weekend to set up, work the water distribution tables and other events during the race, and assist in the clean up as well.
Towards the end of June, The Duluth Air Show will also make its return, but are in need of volunteers to help out through the weekend As they expect close to 50,000 people. “Ideally, we would like to try to find another 100-150 volunteers per day and we’re really asking groups again, if you have 5, 10, 12, or 20 people that you can get together, we would like to hear from you,” Ryan Kern, the President of the Duluth Air Show, said.
The Duluth Air Show encourages groups to sign up for various positions found on their website, with an age limit of over 16, and in return, the qualifying organizations that sign up to help, will receive certain donations from the the Duluth Air Show.
Every year, the Duluth Air Show sets aside $50,000 in their Protected Group Fund that they use to donate to the various qualifying organizations that come to volunteer.
Grandma’s Marathon accepts all ages or families interested in helping as well.
