LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (13-7, 10-5, 3-4) vs.
EASTERN NEW MEXICO (6-14, 6-9, 3-6)
Saturday, February 8 – 3 p.m.
Rip Griffin Center – Lubbock, Texas

BOUNCE BACK
Lubbock Christian is coming off a loss having dropped Thursday night's game to No. 3 West Texas A&M 72-67 in the Rip Griffin Center. It is just the seventh loss overall and third lost at home for the Chaps. LCU has only lost back-to-back games once this year, to start the season. In games immediately following a loss, they are 5-1. They average 7.28 points per game when trying to bounce back while holding opponents to 67.5 points. Lloyd Daniels and Parker Hicks both average double-figures after losses, with 14.0 and 13.7 points per game, respectively.

AWARD CENTRAL
Junior Chap Guard Lloyd Daniels was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for games played January 27 to February 1. He poured in a career-high 34 points against Texas A&M-Commerce, including 13 points in the last nine minutes as LCU came back to beat the Lions. He led another furious comeback by the Chaps against UT Tyler, scoring nine of LCU's 13 points in the last two minutes, including a go-ahead and-one layup to take the lead with 12 seconds left. Daniels shot 58.1 percent from the floor during the week and hit 20-of-21 free throws (95.2 percent). Daniels has now captured the award in back-to-back weeks, becoming the first player to do so this season.

THE TOUGHNESS FACTOR
When it comes to strength of schedule, there are not many schools that have had it worse than Lubbock Christian this season. The Chaps rank No. 17 nationally in strength of schedule, and they are No. 1 among both Lone Star Conference and South Central Region schools. Combined, the teams LCU has played against so far have a win percentage of .580. The road should get slightly easier as they move through the back half of the schedule though, as the future opponents have a win percentage of just .409 so far this year. Placing high in strength of schedule is important though, as it is one of the factors looked at when picking teams for the South Central Regional Tournament.

NO PLACE LIKE…
Saturday's matchup with Eastern New Mexico will be the 12th of 14 scheduled games at home for LCU during the 2019-20 season. They have an 8-3 record on their home court so far this season, with their last home loss coming against Angelo State. LCU is averaging 81.5 points per game and holding opponents to 69.5 points per game at home this year. The Rip Griffin Center, where LCU plays its home games, was named after B.R. "Rip" Griffin, a former secretary of the LCU Board of Trustees, whose generous donation of $500,000, made possible the $4,200,000, 51,500 square foot facility. Officially dedicated on October 9, 2000, the arena seats 1,950 people for sporting events. The Chaps went 13-1 on their home court last season, and they have not posted a losing record at home since the 2006-07 season.

CHARITY STRIPE
Although they have attempted the fifth-fewest free throws in the Lone Star Conference, Lubbock Christian leads the league and ranks 13th nationally in free throw percentage at 79.1 percent. The Chaps set a new Lone Star Conference record earlier this season when they went 27-27 from the free throw line in the win against No. 4 St. Edward's. Daniels leads the team and ranks No. 3 in the league with an 83.1 free throw percentage (62-75), but another four Chaps have attempted at least 15 free throws and are shooting better than 80 percent on the year.

NEW-LOOK CHAPS
After losing their two leading scorers from a season ago, Lubbock Christian brought in a number of new faces to help the offense reload. So far this season, 62.6 percent (45.3 points per game) of the Chaps' scoring is coming from players who were not on the team a season ago. Lloyd Daniels leads the group of newcomers with a team-high 15.8 points per game and is shooting .547, which is the third-best mark in the LSC. Hicks is second on the team with 11.3 points per game and a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game, while Caswell is also averaging double-figures with 10.9 points per game and leads the team in three-point shooting at 51.8 percent. Muhammad set a new career-high in the win over St. Edward's, scoring 16 points off the bench, and Joshua Davey has contributed as a reserve as well.

BEYOND THE ARC
Although they have attempted the seventh-fewest three-pointers in the Lone Star Conference  this season (444), the Chaparrals are second in the league and No. 43 nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 38.7 percent. Caswell leads the team in that mark, hitting an insane 51.8 percent of his three-point attempts (44-85). That mark would lead the nation, but the freshman has only averaged 2.38 made three-pointers per game instead of the requisite 2.5 to factor into the national rankings. Both Daniels (45.2 percent) and Hicks (39.8 percent) would be in the top five in the LSC, but they do not average 2.5 made three-pointers per game either.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
  • ENMU ranks No. 15 nationally and second in the Lone Star Conference in three-point field goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 30.9 percent against them. LCU shot just 21.1 percent from behind the arc in the prior meeting against them this year
  • Despite their three-point defense, the Greyhounds allow an average of 78.6 points per game from their opponents, which is the fourth worst mark in the LSC
  • Devin Pullum is the team leader in scoring with 13.1 points per game. He shoots 43.9 percent from the field, including 36.3 percent from behind the arc
  • Head coach Tres Segler is in his fourth year leading the Greyhound basketball program. He holds a 43-60 all-time record and has not led the team to more than 13 wins in a single season
  • ENMU is coming off a close loss on the road at Angelo State. The Rams hit the go-ahead basket with just 27 seconds left and Pullum missed a three-pointer to win the game with 11 seconds to play

THE SERIES WITH ENMU
Lubbock Christian's win over Eastern New Mexico on January 16 of this year evened the all-time series between the two schools 32-32. The two teams first met in December of 1971, which was just LCU's second season as a senior college. The Greyhounds won that meeting 76-59, sparking a rivalry that has see-sawed back and forth over the last 48 years. The longest win streak in the series belongs to LCU though, as they won five straight in the late 1980s. The Chaps will try and take a lead in the rivalry Saturday afternoon.
