FLINT, MI-- The Crim Fitness Foundation is looking for 16 Flint and Genesee County residents to become a Crim Mindful Fellow and teach mindfulness programs throughout the community.
The fellowship comes from a partnership between Crim and the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute, which was created by leading experts at Google. Search Inside Yourself teaches practical mindfulness, emotional intelligence and leadership tools to help people unlock their full potential.
Those selected to be Crim Mindful Fellows will engage in roughly six months of training and then will be able to teach Search Inside Yourself courses with Crim throughout the county. The fellowship will run from June 2020 through December 2022.
The Crim has been offering mindfulness programs in the Flint area since 2016. In 2019, more than 130 Flint and Genesee County community members came together for a two-day Search Inside Yourself training.
Now in 2020, the Crim hopes that by launching the fellowship they will be able to make a dent in the growing wait list of more than 3,000 community members who want to participate in Search Inside Yourself, said Sarah Sullivan, director of Crim’s mindfulness initiative.
Right now she said the Crim only has two local trainers who are certified to teach the program, so they hope the fellows will be able to help them meet their high demand.
“We’re excited to have 16 more fellows be able to help us to share this information in the community,” Sullivan said.
Normally the Search Inside Yourself teacher training program would cost more than $10,000, Sullivan said. However the program is free for Crim Mindful Fellows. After the fellowship is over, participants can get paid for continuing to teach Search Inside Yourself sessions.
Prospective fellows must have their own mindfulness practice and be committed to deepening it. Ideal fellows would also have experience teaching or facilitating large groups of more than 30 people, experience in mindfulness, health, wellness, community development or coaching and would embody emotional intelligence in their daily life.
“We’re looking for people who are passionate about helping build community, people who embody mindfulness, emotional intelligence and effective leadership and enjoy presenting to groups, especially diverse groups across all sectors,” Sullivan said.
Requirements to apply:
· Applicants must live and/or work in the greater Flint and Genesee County area
· Applicants must have support from their organization or workplace, if applicable
· Applicants must commit to co-facilitate the Search Inside Yourself program at least twice a year for a period of two years with the Crim Foundation Mindfulness Initiative between January 2021-December 2022
· Applicants must have attended the full Search Inside Yourself course. For those who haven’t yet, it will be coming to Flint March 11-12 and May 6-7
