Cold sunshine today, but the weekend is looking much warmer - KTTC

Our current cold spell continues today with snow showers and sunshine both in the weather picture while temperatures remain about ten degrees below the seasonal average. A few batches of light snow showers and flurries will move through the area to start our Friday with just a light dusting of accumulation is spots as a weak disturbance moves through the Upper Mississippi Valley. Clouds will clear quickly during the morning commute through the mid-morning hours as drier air works its way in ahead of high pressure settling in from the north. Expect mostly sunny skies through our Friday with high temperatures in the mid-20s and a slight northwest breeze that will reach 15 miles per hour at times, keeping wind chill values mainly in the teens.

Temperatures will slide back to the lower teens later this evening before warmer air begins to flow into the region after midnight. We'll have clear to partly cloudy skies overnight and those temperatures will climb steadily toward the 20s by the early morning hours Saturday.

Warmer air will blow into the area on brisk south winds tomorrow and abundant sunshine will dominate the day. Thin clouds will drift in late in the afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Clouds will thicken Saturday night with a layer of clouds hanging around through Sunday ahead of a weak cold front that will be approaching from the northwest. Expect filtered sunshine at times Sunday with brisk west winds during the day and high temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s.

The mild spell will continue through next week, but with some slightly unsettled weather showing up at times. We'll have occasional sunshine on Monday with high temperatures in the lower 30s behind Sunday evening's cold front. That will likely stand as the coldest day of the upcoming week, but still right around the climate standard for early March.

A weak storm system will bring light snow showers and sprinkles to the area Tuesday with another one rolling in for Wednesday, but as it stands now, little if any accumulation is expected. High temperatures for the midweek will be in the mid and upper 30s.

Sunnier, warmer weather is expected later in the week with 30s and 40s for high temperatures.
