Check out these 5 outdoor ice skating rinks if you are looking for something to do after Christmas Day - NJ.com

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, New Jersey residents everywhere are not getting out away extra dishes for large family gathering or special outfits for in-person holiday performances.

Fortunately, they can still whip out their ice skates.

Not all ice skating rinks have reopened to the public this year, but a select few across the state are seeing a countless number of skaters throughout the wintertime.

These rinks are not open on Christmas Day, but all are welcoming visitors both prior and after the holiday.

Here are five outdoor ice skating rinks in New Jersey open throughout this most unusual holiday season:

Located on Pershing Field, this outdoor ice rink is open through to mid-February on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There’s a discount on tickets for Jersey City residents, and hours vary pending on day of the week.

This open air, sheltered skating facility in Mercer County has opened for the winter season, but is not offering birthday parties or skate rentals due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Masks must be worn at all times. Adults can skate for $8, and juniors and seniors for $6.

Located in the Newport Centre, at this rink skaters can enjoy up 75 minutes on this outdoor ice rink (per session) with their friends and families, as well as visit during extended hours throughout the holiday season. Masks are required in the rink and Skate Shop, and all tickets are $15.

Located at Palmer Square, this outdoor, eco-friendly synthetic rink, tickets are sold only at the door, and all skaters must sign an electronic waiver to participate. The rink is open Thursdays through Sundays until Feb. 28.

For only $5 skaters can test out their skills in 50-minute skating sessions on this rink, located in Van Saun Park, through to Feb. 21. Recently renovated, this rink is now a full regulation-sized ice rink with added room to socially distance. Masks must be worn at all times and separate tickets are offered for the Carousel and Zoo Train.

Free ice skating is offered in several local parks throughout the state, including Holmdel Park Pond and Heistein Park in Randolph, if weather conditions support it. Call ahead or check online to see if ice skating is open at a park near you!
