Paramus Lacrosse Program Looking Forward to Full Season - TAPinto.net

PARAMUS, NJ - Those without a fully functional crystal ball may have a difficult time determining how the spring high school lacrosse seasons will ultimately play out on the field.

One thing’s for sure, though, and that is the Paramus girls and boys programs will look to give a maximum effort during every practice and every game this spring.

Let’s take a closer look at each team.

PARAMUS GIRLS LACROSSE

The Spartans completed their last full season in 2019 with a very respectable 9-9 overall record. Blerta Lita (senior, midfield) and Caroline Kennedy (junior, midfield and attack) are among the key returning student athletes from that squad.

Promising newcomers include Maura Donoghue (sophomore, defense and midfield) and Vida Parets (sophomore, midfield).

“I am looking to our three seniors Blerta Lita, Alyssa Panagia and Ashley Kennedy to demonstrate to our underclassmen the proper way to conduct themselves both on and off the field,’’ Paramus head coach Michael Bellinger said. “With our lack of varsity experience, I am looking for a gradual improvement in our play as the season progresses. I’m not using a certain number of wins as the determining factor in whether we had a successful season or not.’’

The Spartans are scheduled to face Cranford at home on April 27. They compete in the NJIGLL American North Division along with Pascack Hills, Pascack Valley, River Dell, Old Tappan, Holy Angels and Westwood.

“We are rebuilding,’’ Bellinger said. “We were going to be very young last season so the underclassmen would have gained valuable varsity experience. But with the covid shutdown, we didn’t have the opportunity to get that experience so it will have to happen this season.

“The biggest challenge this season is going to be keeping the season going without a covid shutdown," he said. "I’ve been asking our players to be smart with their contacts outside of school and lacrosse so we have a better chance of playing our season without interruption.’’

PARAMUS BOYS LACROSSE

The Spartans have a home game scheduled for April 26 versus Tenafly.

Brody Schneitzer (senior, attack), Peter Voorhis (senior, attack), Joseph Mancuso (senior, midfield), Matt Joyce (senior, midfield), Logan Connolly (senior, defense), Tyler Behnke (senior, defense), Mason Bellinger (junior, goalie) and Kevin Carmichael (junior, attack) are among the returning varsity experienced student athletes.

Mike Feorenzo (senior, defensive midfield and attack) and Joseph Campbell (junior, defense) are among the newcomers looking to make a strong impression on the varsity roster.

“Our captains are Joseph Mancuso, Peter Voorhis, and Mason Bellinger,’’ Paramus head coach Adam Ahmad said. “Joe is a lead by example player on the field. Peter is a vocal captain and gets the guys going on the field and in our huddles. Mason is a great student of the game always studying, learning and sharing with his teammates.

“Seniors Logan Connolly and Brody Schneitzer also bring extra leadership to the team. Logan has great character and attitude on and off the field. Brody is one of our most talented players and pushes the intensity of play at practices.’’

The Spartans finished the 2019 season with an impressive 12-4 overall record. They compete in the NJILL Curcio Division along with Fair Lawn, Old Tappan, Pequannock, River Dell, Tenafly, DePaul, West Milford and Clifton.

“[We want to] win our League, advance in Counties, host an (NJSIAA) State game and advance in State Tournament,’’ Ahmad said. “Despite moving up a Division, we see ourselves as a contender. We have a solid group returning from our 2019 League title season and we have high expectations along with a high competitive drive.

“Our games will be live streamed on YouTube. We will also post updates, photos and highlights on our Instagram page ‘Paramus_ boys_lax’. On May 8, versus River Dell, we will be wearing Gold Laces for the Go 4 The Goal Foundation, which helps raise funds for pediatric cancer.’’
