Angelina Jolie has got bees. She’s got beeeeeeeeees. Or rather, she’s got women who’ve got bees. Let me explain: Guerlain, the French fragrance and cosmetics brand, partnered with Jolie and UNESCO on a project called Women for Bees. It’s a program at the French Observatory of Apidology, and Jolie was on hand Wednesday to give the first apiarist participants in the program their diplomas. See her here in a beekeeper’s uniform.
In UNESCO’s telling, the project sees “10 women from five biosphere reserves” who will participate in “a 30-day accelerated training course at OFA’s Domaine de la Sainte-Baume (Provence, France) every year.” Jolie’s official title here is “godmother.”
“Over five years, 50 participants will learn the theoretical and practical bases of beekeeping, including the running of a professional apiary,” the press release continues. This is wonderful. Bees are our matriarchy queens, the organizational example of what total subservience of men to a female thought-and-honey leader looks like. This is the future the liberals want! A beauty company for women supporting Angelina Jolie supporting women supporting bees!
And hey, the bees could use the assist, what with colony collapse disorder and the natural world burning before our very eyes. Bees famously make everything better, from the environment to food. (Seminal ’90s flick My Girl notwithstanding.) So maybe basking in the buzz is a nice thing for Jolie too. Her professional calendar has been picking up lately after a few years in which her protracted custody battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt had been regular tabloid fare. Jolie returned to action-star form in Those Who Wish Me Dead earlier this year and will play an ageless being who wields immense power across the sands of time (typecasting!) in Marvel’s Eternals this fall.
In other celebrity-apiarist news, per Page Six, Flea, noted friend of Pitt’s, is into this stuff too, but on a more personal and less international scale. So is David Beckham, reportedly. No major connection to the former couple there.
