Cavs reportedly looking to acquire second-top 10 pick - Fear the Sword

The Cavaliers are already in a good spot for Thursday’s NBA Draft, holding the No. 3 pick and likely to nab Evan Mobley with the pick. But per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Cleveland has been one of the “most active teams in the league” in pursuing trades and reportedly have eyes on nabbing a second top-10 pick.

From Givony:

The Cavs are one of the most active teams in the league on the trade-talk front, rumored to be making overtures to acquire a second pick in the top 10 while pondering the viability of offering a rich contract extension for leading scorer Collin Sexton. It appears unlikely they’ll be moving out of the No. 3 slot, with Mobley looking like the overwhelming favorite to be picked, provided Sexton isn’t moved.

Let’s look at some of the options for getting a second top-10 pick:

  • Magic: Own picks No. 5 & 8
  • Warriors: Hold pick No. 7, looking for win-now pieces
  • Pelicans: Holding pick No. 10, reportedly looking for win now pieces

It’s hard right now to see what the Cavs could deal to get another pick or even who they would be targeting. Names to consider could someone like James Bouknight or Moses Moodey, wings up two-way upside projected to be picked in the back half of the top-10.

But it’s hard to see how the Cavs could get another pick. Would, say, Sexton for Eric Bledsoe and No. 10 be a thing either side wants to do? Sexton doesn’t really move the needle in what the Warriors need and the Magic are so far away trading for a player about to get paid doesn’t make sense.

Maybe Cleveland can find a way to a deal here, but it’s just hard to see right now.
