MORGANTOWN — Local residents are being asked to volunteer their time and compassion to help fulfill wishes for children who are living with critical illnesses.
The Make-A-Wish regional office of Northern West Virginia is in need of people to become members of “wish teams” and is hosting an online training course through Zoom on Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
This opportunity is available to residents of Randolph, Upshur, Barbour, Tucker and Pocahontas counties, as well as in other areas.
Wish Team members are assigned a child in the area in which they reside. As a member they will meet with the family and aid in determining the most suitable wish for a child. To become a volunteer, individuals must attend the training session, pass a criminal background check, and be at least 21 years old.
The regional office is currently looking for new volunteers in the following counties: Barbour, Berkeley, Braxton, Brooke, Doddridge, Gilmer, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Monongalia, Morgan, Ohio, Pendleton, Pleasants, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Ritchie, Taylor, Tyler, Tucker, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel and Wood.
Those interested in taking the training course are asked to RSVP at https://ift.tt/3zxrxhx. For more information on training, contact Vanessa Zweig, regional coordinator at Make-A-Wish, at vzweig@greaterpawv.wish.org or 304-292-5600.
For those who are unable to commit to becoming a volunteer at this time, officials ask that you please consider donating to the nonprofit organization that creates life-changing wishes for children, ages 2 1/2 to 18 years old. For more information call 800-676-9474.
