REPORT: Hawks looking to get more shooters in free agency - ClutchPoints

The Atlanta Hawks are looking to retool their squad internally and externally come the offseason. Not only will they demand their current players to shoot better, but they are also reportedly looking to haul in more shooters from the free agent market.

Per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce emphasized that the team needs to beef up their shooting.

“We need to add shooting and we need to improve shooting. A lot of that has to happen internally with all of our guys. Trae ended up at 36 percent. John’s at 41 percent. De’Andre Hunter is at 35 or 36 percent. Kevin is at 38 percent. We need to add shooting as well. We need to add guys who give us the capability to continue to stretch the floor,” the Hawks bench boss shared.

From a team perspective, the Hawks shot 44.9 percent from the field — 23rd in the league. Broken down, they shot 52.6 percent from the two-point range, which is 13th in the NBA. From downtown, they shot at a horrendous 33.4 percent, which is surprising the second-worst in the league.

Prior to the season being suspended, the Hawks had a 20-47 record.

From Pierce’s perspective, improving their shooting is the key to end their woes. This may come as a surprise to some, especially since the Hawks’ highlight reels frequently feature Young heaving up 3-pointers from practically anywhere on the floor. But in reality, Young and the entire Atlanta squad are not doing that well.

Despite this, there’s a lot to be excited about the Hawks. Analysts have tagged the young team as a serious up and coming squad. Once they are able to improve their shooting and build their chemistry, Pierce’s team will be tough to contain.

Bulls, Mavs, Michael Finley, Mark Cuban
