WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Nearly 25% of those who rent in Wilmington are looking to move outside the area, according to a new study.
Apartment List has published their quarterly renter migration report, providing a first glimpse of how moving trends might be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In this report, we analyze data on millions of searches to see where our users are preparing to move, shedding new light on the migration patterns of America’s renters,” Apartment List wrote online.
The study shows 24.2% of apartment hunters currently living in Wilmington are looking to move elsewhere, while 51.7% of those looking for a place to live in Wilmington are searching from outside the metro.
Also, among renters looking to move away from the Wilmington metro, the most popular destinations are Raleigh (14.2%), Charlotte (10.6%), or Myrtle Beach, SC (7.5%)
Renters looking to move to the Wilmington metro from elsewhere are most likely to be searching from Charlotte, NC (13.8%), Raleigh, NC (7.7%), or Myrtle Beach, SC (7.0%), according to Apartment List.
“Although we expect that COVID-19 could have significant long-term implications for where Americans choose to live, we are not yet seeing significant disruption to the migration patterns that appear in our data,” Apartment List wrote in a news release. “In fact, we even see renters continuing to plan moves to coronavirus hot spots.”
