Joe Burrow injury update: Bengals QB suffers gruesome-looking finger injury vs. Chargers - Sporting News

The Bengals are trying to mount a comeback after trailing by as many as 24 points against the Chargers of their Week 13 matchup. They're going to have to do it with Joe Burrow operating at less than 100 percent.

Burrow suffered a gruesome-looking finger injury late in the first half of the contest. He scrambled for a touchdown to cut the Chargers' lead to 11 but came up with the pinky finger in his throwing hand pointing in the wrong direction.

Burrow spent the Chargers' next drive on the sideline testing various tape jobs on his finger. He appeared to be in immense discomfort while dealing with the injury and attempting to grip and throw the ball.

Still, the Bengals quarterback was on the field when Cincinnati got the ball back for one final drive in the second half. He didn't appear to be wearing a wrap or splint on his finger. He completed 3 of 5 passes for 17 yards but was unable to lead the Bengals to a score.

Burrow was favoring his pinky on the final drive of the half, and he didn't appear to have quite as much zip on his passes. The Bengals could have attempted a Hail Mary to end the half but opted not to spike the ball and stop the clock to do so, perhaps speaking to the condition of Burrow's injured finger.

Burrow played the entirety of the second half for the Bengals and after the game, he explained that he had suffered a dislocation of his pinky.

"It's just something I'm going to have to deal with," Burrow said, per ESPN's Ben Baby.

So, Burrow will continue to push through the injury. That said, he couldn't find a splint or glove that he was comfortable using to throw the ball, so we'll have to see if that impacts him moving forward.

If Burrow has to miss any time, backup quarterback Brandon Allen would become the starter. Allen has a 2-6 career record as a starter but has completed 63 percent of his passes for 938 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions with the Bengals. He has played just 36 total snaps for the team in a few blowouts against the Lions, Browns and Steelers this season.
