State police looking for some new troopers - CT Post

HARTFORD-The job is challenging, the hours are ever-changing but the pay is not bad.

The Connecticut State Police are looking for some new troopers. They are accepting applications beginning Feb. 18 to March 13.

The State Police which is part of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection has released a video as part of their recruitment effort.

There are approximately 1,031 troopers employed by the state. They are spread out over 11 districts. Those barracks are located in Southbury, Canaan, Tolland, Danielson, Montville, Westbrook, Bridgeport, Hartford, Bethany, Colchester, Litchfield and Bradley Airport.

The position pays a starting salary of $60,693 but can reach $86,705. The average salary is $73,699.

It also offer opportunity beyond patrolling the highways.

Fifty-four of the state’s municipalities utilize resident trooper program. As part of that program a senior trooper supervises other troopers or the town’s constables in policing the municipality.. Oxford has a resident state trooper

As troopers gain experience there is the ability to transfer into specialized units.

These include the Statewide Organized Crime Task Force, Statewide Narcotics Task Force as well as the Welfare Fraud, Criminal Intelligence, Polygraph the Photography and Identification Units. The Emergency Services Unit includes Aviation, Bomb Squad, Scuba Diving, SWAT, K-9 and Major Crime squads. There’s a Fire Marshal and Training Division, Forensic Laboratory and Licensing and Permit Sections.

In order to apply a person must be a U.S. Citizen with a high school diploma or GED, be at least 21 years old with no felony or class A or B misdemeanor convictions and have a driver’s license. Candidates must pass both a written and physical fitness test.
